Advices from Parihaka arc to the effect that a mooting called there by To W'niti for the 28th, and attended by Titokowaru and others, proves to be a matter of no importance. The Parihaka natives are actively engaged on their cultivations, and everything appears quiet. To-day’s official telegrams from the constabulary camp report that the native fencers having had a hint yesterday to mind what they were about, came down at an unusually early hour this morning (about six o’clock), but only went through the usual mummery. It is stated that the natives are frequently robbed by some tramps who arc idling about that part of the country, and that some irritation has been occasioned in consequence. MAORI PRISONERS. Wellington, Friday. Last night’s Gazette contains a proclamation extending the operation of the Maori Prisoners Act, 1880, three months from the 31st. TIMBER REGULATIONS. , Wellington, Friday. The following alterations in regulations for conveyance of timber on New Zealand railways has been gazetted,: “The provision applying to small lots is cancelled, and the following substituted, viz.: any less quantity which can bo carried in one truck will be charged as such minimum or at Id per 100 superficial feet per mile. Where this rate is charged the minimum quantity will be 100 feet, and the minimum charge Is 3d per 100 superficial feel, without further charge for loading or unloading. The minimum charge for each consignment will bo 2s 6d. THE FIJI CULPRIT. Wellington, Friday. The fate of Joe, the Fiji murderer at Auckland,'will probably be decided at a meeting of the Executive Council tov morrow. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL VACANCY Wellington, Friday. The place in .the Legislative Council vacant through the appointment of Sir Dillon Bell as Agent-General will be filled by Mr Oswald Curtis, of Nelson.
