Pollock’s Raven Mr 0. Syme’s Raupo Mr C. Brewer’s Gladys The nominations for the handicaps on the programme of the Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club are very good, but 1 was rather surprised that the names of some of the best horses entered for Wanganui did not appear, as the stakes are very fair and the events of such a varied character as to be suitable to both long and short coursed animals. However', eleven for the Hurdles, ten for the Waverley-Waitotara Handicap, and twelve for the Flying Handicap, on paper reads very well, and good fields should come from such nominations if the handicappers manage to please the owners. The Hurdle horses are a very fair lot, Grey Momus being the best performer of the number, but there may perhaps be an odd one or two amongst them which may yet prove quite as good as the old grey. In the big event, Opawa, Soukar, Hailstorm, and Otawa are about the best performers, but there are several last years 3 3 7 ear olds, and all winners, which may be heard of again. There is also a four year old mare which makes her first appearance here, and a horse called the Monk, entered in Mr Syme’s name. Most of the same horses are in for the Flying Race, but the names of Tally-ho, Messenger (late Port Wine), Raven, Raupo, Redeemer, and Gladys also appear. Altogether the horses are a very fair lot, and I shall say more about them after the weights come out, Messrs A. Higgle and J. Chadwick have been appointed handicappers in place of Mr Hately, who declined to act, owing to his having horses of his own in preparation for the turf. Leolincjs.
