BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL,
Monday Evening. Accident. —A serious accident happened to the eldest son of Mr D. Hunter, Kenilworth. He was bringing in a horse on Friday evening, when the animal he was riding threw him, and his foot getting caught in the stirrup, his log was broken in two places above the knee. A messenger was immediately despatched to Patea for Ur Croft, who on arrival set the broken limb. On Saturday a telegram was sent to Wanganui for Ur Earle, and his partner, Ur Donaldson, came up to sec the young sufferer. It is in such cases as this that the want of a regularly qualified medical man resident in the district is seriously felt. There is first the inconvenience and delay in obtaining medical assistance, and the serious consideration of expense attendant on the doctor’s visit. It is now about time an attempt to secure a resident doctor for the district was made. With so many settlers there ought to be little dilliculty in guaranteeing a sufficient sum to induce a qualified practitioner to settle in Wavcrlcy. The matter is at all events worth considering, and it is to be hoped some of our residents will take up the subject, and see if something can be done in securing a mutual benefit. Tub Concert in aid of the funds of the ChurclPof England here is to be held on the 14th September. There arc to bo singers from Wanganui and Patea, so that the concert promises to be a treat, and will no doubt be a financial success.
