KAKARAMEA.
(FKOM 0 Ull CORRESPONDENT.)
Wednesday Evening. Complaints arc being made, and with good reason, about the very bad state of the sidings in our High-street. Nothing can be said against the crown of the roadway, which, considering the amount of traffic and the wretched weather, is in good order ; but iu front of Mr Slater’s store and Mr Brodic’s butchery there are pitfalls deep and dangerous to pedestrians. The fact that embedded boots are at times observable by passers-by is ample proof that something should be done iu the way of amendment. At times these quagmires become converted into miniature rivers, ami there is a capital opening for a ferryman. Farming Operations arc being carried on in spite of the adverse weather. Many acres in this district will bo laid down in wheat, and with anything like a decent season the farmers may look forward to having very fair yields. Those whoso properties are poorly sheltered will, I am afraid, experience heavy losses among their lambs. I am informed that Mr Wilson, of Sea View Farm, has already suffered considerably in this way, having lost between 30 and 40.
