Hawera Road Board.

The Board met on .Saturday. Present — Messrs Hunter (chairman), Gane, Morrison, Williams. Allan, and Robson. Minister for Public Works, re Whcrcroa reserve road, stated that the Government wore not in a position to do such work. Proposed by Mr Morrison, and seconded by Mr Allen, “That in speaking on any motion brought before the Board, no commissioner he allowed to do so more than once, and he. is to coniine himself strictly to the subject matter of (lie same.”— Carried. A considerable discussion between Messrs Allan and Gane look place re the contract being called for sowing, ploughing, &c, mi Ingahapc, Pain, and Mells road. Proposed by Mr Gane, and seconded by Mr Williams, “That the tenders as advertised for ploughing and sowing Fainj Mells, and Ingalinpe road be received and opened by Messrs Gane and Williams, and that the above commissioners purchase the grass seed for the sowing.”— Carried.

Resolved, “ That Messrs Gane and Williams see to getting scrub felled on Otaki road, about 10 chains, and a track about 12 feet wide made.

Mr Alain proposed, “That Muoc chains on the West toad be repaired.” There was no seconder.

Proposed by Mr Gane, “That tenders be called for material and erection of bridge over Otaki stream, to be erected in same place from whence bridge was shifted on Whakamara road ; that the engineer get out specifications ; tenders to bo addressed to Messrs Williams and Gano,[on Saturday, 21sl August.” Seconded by Mr Hunter, and carried. The Chairman explained that the road to Normanby was a Hoad Hoard one, and not a County road, but bo bad taken steps to make it the latter.

Hesolvcd, “ That Messrs Allen and Ganc be empowered to spend £7 on the West Hoad to the best advantage.” Accounts passed ; —T. Mori arty, £8 ; J. West, £lll 8s ; J. Twigg, £B4 Ids lid ; W. 11. Watts, £8; Williams, £1 10s. Upon the account of Messrs Pearce and Holgerson for £4B IGs being put in, Mr Ganc proposed, and Air Williams seconded, “ That Air Allen advance the amount until the Hoard arc in funds, according to In’s agreement.”—Carried. It was subsequently decided that the Hoard get the money, and Mr Allen agreed to pay the interest on the same. I’JiIiSONAI. niFin;i!KN< KS. During the meeting a passage of arms took place between Messrs Allen and Gano. Their expressions to each other were so violent, that at one time the chairman threatened to leave the chair. The dispute arose from a debate upon the reading of a clause of the Land Act. Mr Ganc contended that the money paid by each individual selector should be spent for his particular benefit. Air Allen took a broader view, contending that the money should be spent for the benefit of the whole block.
