HAWERA TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary’ monthly meeting was held at Hie secretary’s office, on Alonday night. Air King, in the absence of Air Winks, was voted to the chair. Correspondence:—W. Noble re nuisance, 11. AfcDevott, and W. A’Conrt. Alcssrs McL’Dowio and Symc waited upon the Board re bad state of High-street past their residences. Resolved, —That a culvert be placed across the road between Sweeney’s and Symes’s, and ditch deepened. Mr Twigg reported re improvements in High-street. A committee of Messrs Cockbnrn, Duflill, and Dingle was appointed to look into the complaint lodged by Mr Noble. Air A’Court’s application for a crossing was granted. -Resolved, —That the Native Department be asked to contribute to the cost of continuing High-street for the convenience of the natives.
A committee consisting of Messrs Dntlill, King, and Stevenson were appointed to enquire into the advisableness of leasing the acre reserve.
Resolved, —That) Messrs King, Duffill, and Dingle be the working committee for ensuing year.
Proposed by Mr King, and seconded by Mr Oockbnrn, “That a public meeting be called for Saturday next, at 7.30 p.m., for the purpose of urging upon the Government the necessity of completing the railway between Stratford and Hawera, and also for building a Court-house in Hawera, and other business.” Carried.
It was resolved that the Board form a committee to draw up resolutions and to meet on Tuesday. Proposed by Mr King, and seconded by Mr Dingle, “That a telegram be sent to Major Atkinson asking him to place Hawera in the schedule of ‘ The Town Districts Act, 1860.’ ”
Unsolved, —That unless the rent of the cemetery reserve be paid within 14 days the lease be cancelled.
Resolved, —That a cheque of £9 5s 3d be offerred to Mr McDevitt, in payment of his account.
Resolved, —That tenders be called for forming the recreation ground parallel with the Normanby road, and round the cricket ground. Proposed by Mr King, and seconded by Mr Cockburn, “That the meeting of the Board for the future be held on the second Thursday in the month.” Carried. Accounts passed:—G. V. Bate, £1 Is; Galvin and Co., £l2 3s ; I. Twigg, £22 14s; Dingle and Newsham, £6B 16s. The Board then adjourned.
