PROPOSED COUNTY TEAM V. ALLCOMERS.

This match came off on Saturday afternoon, on the Cricket and Athletic Sports Ground, Patea, under favorable circumstances, the weather being all thatcould be desired. Only twelve of the County players turned up, and out of this number six belonged to theJCarlyle Club. They decided to play short-handed, and it certainly looked as if they would be defeated when no less than twenty-three players, representing all-comers, took the field against them. However, by really good play the twelve actually defeated their opponents by two goals to one and a try. Bayly kicked both goals for the County team, and Carey the one for all-comcrs. As the game was more for the purpose of testing the abilities of the opposing players, with a view to selecting from their numbers, to improve if possible on those selected to play against Wanganui, a description of the game need not bo given. After the match a full committee meeting was held, and tiio following players were chosen ; Messrs Bayly, throe-quarter-back ; T. Nicholson, back ; G Nicholson and J. Kitching, quarter-backs ; F; Baddcley and Heanen, half-backs ; Robinson, R. gangster, J. Thurston, Green or Mason, Gibbons, F. Lysaght, Turner, H. Contis, and Powell, forwards ; G. Bayly. to captain the team, who will play in the magenta and white colors of the Hawcra Club.
