WAVERLEY.

fFU O M 0U U CORRESPOND EX T.j

Mu Freeman R. Jackson’s sale of stock on Friday was the best we have had at Waverlcy. The prices realised were far beyond expectation, and the buyers from a distance gave an additional impetus to what was expected to be a good sale. Mr Owen bought the imported bull for £SO, ami the imported cow was secured by Mr Daniel Williams for TO guineas. The calf was knocked down to Mr J. S. Caverhill for £3O, and he good-naturedly passed his bargain, to Mr Dempster, of Nuknmara, at the same money. The other cattle sold well, and a goodly number wcae knocked down to Hawera bidders. The horses certainly sold well, one upstanding chestnut fetching £24, and being again sold to Mr John McLean at £26 10s. We shall take this spirited sale as a sign of reviving times, and look for a continuation of plucky bidding at our sales, which have certainly been dull enough of late.

PUKSBVTEKIAN CHURCH. TllC halfycarly sacramental service was held here on Sabbath. Notwithstanding the threatening appearance of the weather, there was a large attendance of worshippers from the country, and the services were conducted by the pastor, Mr Allworlh, in a manner suited to the occasion.

Tin? Wkathku. —Monday’s downfall of rain was such as we have not had for some time. The weather had been looking threatening for some days, but it has been raining incessantly for the last twelve hours, with no present appearance of a break in the storm when this note was despatched.
