WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was hold on Saturday. Present —Messrs Johnston, Aitkcn, lon, M'Lcan, and the Chairman. The Treasurer’s balance showed—Dr. £270 12s 5d ; and Cr. by block VIII., £SO 18s Bd, and by block IXi, £232 19s. The balance-sheet for the year ending March last showed total receipts, _ £1,612 19s lod., and the expenditure account showed £331 5s 3d in the bank at the end
of March, and ,itss 14s in collector’s hands. Moved by Mr lon, seconded by Mr Johnston, “That steps be taken to alter the western boundary of the district to the Whenuakura river.”—Carried. Moved by Mr Aitken, seconded by Mr Johnston, and carried, “That wooden culverts be-substituted ifor”‘fern trees on Messrs Fraser and Muldrock’s cutting.” Moved b}’ Mr McLean, seconded by Mr Aitken, and earned, “ That wooden culverts be substituted for fern trees on Messrs Hughes’s contract.” , Moved by.Mr M'Lean, seconded .by Mr 'lon, and carried, “That the Chairman make arrangements with the occupier of section 387, block IX., for matai trees on block IX., for bridges.” Moved by Mr lon, seconded by Mr Aitken, and carried, “That, plans and specifications for bridges on blocks VIII. and IX. be drawn up for next meeting.” Tenders were opened as follow Putahi —J. W. Hughes, £l4 15 ; Brooks and Thomlinson, £ls ; J. Harrison and Co.. £ls ; Keating, £27 10s ; Biddy and McLinden, £32. Moved, by; the Chairman, seconded by Mr lon, and carried, “Tbat J.' W. ; Hughes’s tender be accepted.” Moved by Mr lon, seconded by Mr McLean, and carried, “That the worst part of the second cutting and banking and the side cutting on Nicholson’s road, be repaired, and Mr lon be empowered to ‘ expend a ertahrsum.” Moved by Mr Johnston, seconded by Mr McLean, and carried, “ That three culverts be put in on'tire road'to'Wick’s.” Moved by Mr lon, seconded by Mr f* M'Lean, and carried; “That Messrs Marchant, Bisiley, and: Kcnah receive uotice to grub the gorse that has spread from their fences to the road.” Moved by Mr lon, seconded by Mr Aitken, and earned, “That the Chairman prepare a statement of all arrears of rates for which judgment has been obtained with costs, by next meeting.” Moved by Mr Johnston, seconded by Mr Aitken, and carried, “ That J. W. Kcnah, Esq. bo requested to refund the ‘amount of law stamps placed by'his discretion upon the information sworn by the Chairman.” Moved by Mr Aitken, seconded by Mr lon, and carried, “ That the fallowing accounts be passed for pa3’inent:—Telegram, Is 2d ; Nicholl and Co, £5 15s 5d ; law stamp, 5s ; Baldwin, 12s ; G. Taylor, £1 10s ; W. Lennard, £3 8s 3d ; Keatiug, £3 os ; Nicholson, £2 4s.
