WAVERLEY.
[MOM OUIt, CORKE SPO ND E N T.] Church on England.-— The new church here begins to assume fair proportions, although like most colonial churches erected by the Church of England body, there is too much show of roof. : Road Making.— During the last few months our contractors here have been tendering for work at very low figures. The excuse is that unless they do so they cannot get a job, and they might be told that it would be better to go without a job than work for nothing. This is no doubt owing to the hard times felt so much. all. over New Zealand at present; but those small contract jobs taken at present prices can only be running some persons into debt and difficulty, for unless the work can be completed by the party taking them without assistance, wages cannot be paid. Those lotting contracts arc entitled to take the lowest offer, and those who take the work ought to see to it, that it will do more than pay for the bare necessities of life. Cattle Sales. —Mr P. R. Jackson holds his sale on Friday, and there is a large number of cattle and sheep entered. His sale on July 2nd will no doubt attract a large number of buyers, as the cattle to be sold are all well-bred.
