CARLYLE R.M. COURT.

Tuesday, before Dr Croft and Mr H. TJ Christie. HORSES WANDERING. W. Odgers, hotelkeeper, Carlyle, was summoned for allowing a horse to wander. He admitted the offence, but protested against such a law being imposed through the Taranaki Ordinance on a town like Carlyle, which was large enough by this time to make laws of its own. Dr Croft remarked that he would like to have a band in making some of the laws. The defendant was let off on payment only of the costs, 7s. : John Collins, charged with a like offence, was ordered to pay costs, 7s. Dr Croft said : If you could show that the horse was going to fetch the cattle up by itself, that would be a good defence. Have you any horses that can do that, eh ?—The defendant said he had one horse that could do it.—Dr Croft: But it wasn’t this horse, eh ?—Defendant: No.—Dr Croft: Then you must pay the costs. Joseph Chadwick was also ordered to pay 7s costs for allowing a horse to wander, within the town. • . • . - - CIVIL CASES. - G: A. Merchant applied-for an order under a judgment summons against J. Pope, butcher at Hawera, formerly in Carlyle, the debt being £2 14s. Dr Croft said : He must pay in a; month,'with 5s costs, or else change of air for 14 days.

J. North summoned T. M'Evoy, of the A.C. force, for an old debt of £2 7s 6d; clothes supplied. The defendant admitted having' been in receipt of 6s 6d a day for a long time.—Dr Croft said : You ought to have paid this long since. Pay in a week, or 14 days’ change of air. If you don’t know what that means, it means Taranaki gaol for 14 days. Wednesday, before Dr Croft and Mr H. . F. Christie. STEALING A SADDLE.
