HAWERA.
[FROM OU1! CORRESPONDENT.] The Mountain Road is still in a frightful state, the coaches never meeting the train at Stratford, I hear that, in consequence of the bad weather, the three miles of railway this side of Stratford, promised to bo opened by June, will be delayed some time yet. The four and half miles for which tenders are now out will complete the formation to Normanby, bub as this is, for its size, the heaviest piece of work on the lino from here to New Plymouth, it will take some considerable time. There is one embankment 40 feet deep, besides other heavy cuttings and fillings. From what I can hear, there is very little probability of the line being into Normanby much before September twelve-month. There is no news of importance to record from the Plains. The men arc pushing on, notwithstanding the adverse weather, but should it continue, I fear they will have to get winter quarters. The contractors for the gravelling contracts have been knocked off for the winter, consequently there arc many idle men about. No doubt the publicans do not object, but it is bad for the district as a whole.
