PATEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
(To the Editor of the Pate a Mail.) Sin, —Can yon inform me if the above mentioned body have let a contract for gravelling to one of its members, I notice that a Councillor is working on the main road between Patea and WTionunkura, ami bis residence being situated in the far-famed Wbakamara Block, I suppose lie must have been successful in obtaining a contract from the Council. Surely he would not go so far from his farm to work for wages ; but if that is his object, he would have shown better taste to have worked at some other than Council road work. Under the 62nd clause of “ The Srmnties Act, 1876,” if be is concerned or participating in any partnership in any contract with, or work to be done for the Council, he is liable to a penalty of £SO, and is incapable of being a Councillor. Oh, Francis Job, take care ! Beware ! Remember the thirty shillings per month which you are allowed for the trouble you are put to in attending the Council meetings.—l am, &c., COUNTY RATEPAYER.
