HAWERA SOLICITORS' FEES.
To the Editor of the Patea Mail. Sir, —I was in the Ha worn R, M. Court on the loth instant, when a small debt case was called. The defendant acknowledged the debt. A solicitor then rose up just for three minutes, and said be considered ihe debt ought to be paid at once. I fancy I must hare been dreaming when I heard the police sergeant calling out that the judgment of the Court was for plaintiff, with costs, and two guineas lor solicitor’s fee. Two guineas for three minutes’ work ! “ Why,” said I to myself, “ that heats Mr Rees' little hill of £:»(K) lor a fortnight's work all to rags.” Surely the business of a liawera solicitor must be a paying one, if the above charge ol two guineas for three minutes work is anything like the usual charge of those professional gentlemen. Two guineas for three minutes’ would amount to £42 per hour, and £3d(i per day. 1 must now conclude this letter, by leaving your numerous readers to consider if there is any truth in the statement made by Mr Par ton, with reference to the Taranaki Courts. If [ were the defendant, in the above ease, 1 would report it to the Minister of .Justice, at Wellington, when 1 have no doubt, full justice wouldbe done to the defendant. i am, &c., iSL'RAIsGEII. H uvera, 17th January.
