VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

A friendly match took place at the new A.C. Range, Waihi, on Saturday, the 4th instant, between ten of the Normanby Rilie Volunteers, and ten ot No. I Company Hawera Ride Volunteers, resulting in a victory for the former. The weather was most unfavourable,there being heavy squalls of wind and ruin all the time. Nevertheless, as the subjoined score shews, some very good -shooting was made:—

CARLYLE RIFLES v A.C. A match between ten of the A.C. Force at Waihi, and five men each from Nos. 1 and 2 Companies Carlyle Rifles, was arranged to take place some time ago, but owing to the rough weather, it had to be postponed from week to week. However, it had been decided that the match should take place the first fine Friday, and yesterday our local men proceeded to the Range and fired. The conditions were Two-leaf target, with 8 inch bull’s-eye, at 200 and 300 yards ; and threo-leaf target, with 2foot bull’s-eye, at 400 yards ; seven shots at each range ; any position. Below will be found the scores of the local team, but the A.C. scores will not be forthcoming till next issue, they having fired on their own ground:—
