(Per Press Agency.) WELLINGTON. Juno 3. During Quarterly Licensing Meeting today, it transpired that during last twelve months, 256 persons had been arrested charged with drunkenness before ten at night, and 157 after that hour. Thirty-one hotels in city hold night licenses. Thirty one applications were made to-day for 12 o’clock licenses instead of ten. All were granted, the Bench not seeing the fairness of compelling one man to shut up at 10 o’clock, and see his customers cross the road perhaps to 12 o’clock houses. Government are making preparations to confront and cope with any difficulty likely to arise with natives on the West Coast. Enlisting A.C.’s and drilling is going on. Detachments of men are being sent forward to various stations as soon as ready. Arrangements arc being made to bring a thousand friendly natives as a chock upon Te Whiti’s followers. Redoubts and fortified places are being put in effective repair. NEW PLYMOUTH. June 3. Governor, Premier, and Colonel Whitmore and suite left for Wellington by Hinemoa at 4.30. Governor has deffered his visit to Auckland till 12th June.
