(Per Press Agency.) ~ WELLINGTON. March 28. Patea sailed for Patea at 4 p.m., with 30 A.C. It is said Government have received telegrams from settlers between Patea and Waingongoro, expressing ability to protect their district, but requesting Government to supply them with arms. The Hon Mr Sheehan and Major Brown return to Opunake to-morrow. The report that the militia and volunteers would be sent up to the Plains, is-semi-official!y denied. TAUPO. March 28. Thirty A.C. men are leaving this district for Wellington this morning. AUCKLAND. March 28. King meeting at Kopua is definitely fixed for 28th April. It is staled that Sir George Grey is ill in bed at Kawan, but the report requires confirmation. ENGLISH NEWS- PER HERO. The British Government is zealously guarding the approach of vessels from Russian ports, to prevent introduction of plague. Large mortality at Thessaly from malignant typhus. Great mortality in the camp at Kandaha,owing to severity of Afghan winter. The rumor that Shere Ali died, had reference to Bokhara.
