THE CATHOLIC COMPLAINT.

Tun following letter lias been received from the Uev Father. Pertnis, in reference to article in our last issue, and which we have taken the liberty of publishing, under the impression that it is far better that the rev. gentleman should speak for himself, than that we should attempt to summarise or in anyway .interfere with bis remarks ; Dear Sir,—ln reference to my last advertisement in the Wanganui *• Chronicle,” I beg to state that my only intention was, not to injure your paper, but to show the people under my care the evil to which their faith was exposed, and to guard them against it; and as a means of removing that evil from them. 1 advised and directed, but . not commanded. them to give up the paper that contained it in its pages. You accuse me of having been rather hasty, and having rushed to print, instead of writing to you, and asking you for an explanation of the matter in question ; but it being only a continuation of the subject alluded to that I took notice of, and thinking that you were the writer of it, or at least had full knowledge of it, I was naturally led to conclude that you really intended, or were careless enough, to overlook the evil ; but had I known that you were not aware of the Mujiploment’s contents. I would cerlainly not have sent that advertisement to the. Wanganui “ Chronicle,” which article, however, was not intended for an advertisement, bnt-to be published in the columns of the “Chronicle,"’ at the discretion of the editor.

But I am quite pleased to see in tins morning’s paper that you have already communicated with (he writer of the supplement, and am well satisfied with the terms of your letter ; and in consequence of this good disposition of yours, I will continue to support your paper, as I have always done, and my Catholic friends, will, I am sure, follow my example, pot a; *■ dumb-driven cattle,” but as " sensible and rational beings,” for—“ La raison conduit I’homme ala Jj'oi.”— llacinb. —iam.de., E. iPEHTQIS.
