(from our own correspondent.) This has been a very busy week. The Bazaar in aid of the Wesleyan Church opened io-day, and promises to be a great success, a splendid assortment of Christmas and New Tear’s Gifis having been collected by the ladies in the neighbourhood who have been indefatigable in their efforts, and deserve the greatest credit for the first class stylo in which the Bazaar has been got up. A return match at Cricket was played here on Wednesday last, between (he A. C. Force, and the Uawera Club. The play on both side; was very good, as was proved by the cio enoss of the match, which resulted in favour of the ibvwera Club by four wickets. For the A. C. Team. Captains .Morrison and Foley played very well. The latter is a new arrival, and from the way he handled the widow promi.e: to become one of the best players in rite district. For the Tlawcra ■Club Messrs, iii.tdiford. Bcresford, and Cunningham did good service, scoring very well. Tnc score-3 wore A. (J. first innings 56 ; second inning; Sit. Uawera Club, first innings. 81 ; second innings 6j. with four wickets to fa!!. The Hawcra Brass Band is doing good praedec. and promise ;• in a short time to be able to (iiseom ,-e some first class mu.-ic, as Sfvciv.t excellent musicians are amongst it's members. It is to be hoped, that now (he public see the undertaking properly started, and. ..he instruments arrived, that they will come freely forward with their subscriptions, as at present almost the whole expense has fallen upon (he shoulders of a few public spirited and liberal men, who guaranteed (he whole of the necos-ary funds.
The monster meeting at the Town Hall to to endeavour to obtain the removal of the District; Laud Office from Carlyle to Hawera, was well attended. The following is a cony of fiio resolutions passed, to be forwarded to the Minister of Lands, and Crown Lauds Coinnii-itioner : *• That the meeting would most respectfully urge upon the Government, and Waste Land Hoard of Taranaki, the importance of removing the District Land Office from Carlyle to Hawera. for die following reasons : Ist. That a District Land Office was first instituted in this County for the convenience of the several public Government officials. 2nd. That Carlyle being then the centre of Survey operations, and the only Town of any importance in the District, was necessarily chosen as the site for the office. 3rd, That almost the whole of the Government Land in the vicinity of-Carlyle has been surveyed and sold, consequently the necessity for an office no longer exists. ■lth. That the Purveyors and other Officials, as well as the public generally, are pur, to lo very great inconvenience by being obliged to make such long and unnecessary journeys as visits from the land being offered for sale to the present District Land Office involves. sth. That liawera being the most central, as well as the largest Town of the County, and immediately adjacent to the great balk of Government land, is the most fitting in every respect for the District Land Office. 6tli; That the building now used as a Court House, viz., the Hawera Town Hall, would make a most suitable place for bolding the land sales, It was further proposed “ That the meeting would now respectfully recommend that the District Land Office be removed to Hawera, prior to the sale of the Waimate Plains, so that maps and information would be of easy access to intending purchasers.” Max.
