It is understood that the increase to bo made to the pay of the Police by the Government, will be one shilling per day for Sergeant-Majors, and sixpence per day for all other grades downwards, including the Armed Constabulary. Nows was received here by cable this afternoon, that the City of Sydney cleared Sydney Heads at nine this morning. Floods on the Overland Route having detained the Victorian mails, it became necessary to postpone the sailing of the’Frisco Steamer. The detention, however, will not interfere with the steamer’s departure from New Zealand, as she will be pressed on the passage to Auckland.
