The French Government, in consequence of the British occupation of Cyprus, require assurances respecting French interests in. Syria and Egypt. Salisbury replying, expressed a desire for the co-operation of France and England regarding Egyptian affairs.
NEW YORK. November G. The State Elections and Congressional Elections are over. They resulted in a great accession strength to the Republicans in the Northern and Western Slates, the Democrats being victorious in the Southern States. SYDNEY. November 7. The Assembly finally agreed to the contract for the cable duplication. BRISBANE. November 7. Four navvies were killed, and thirteen seriously injured, in the passage under a b|idgo in course of construction on the Northern Railway. The Derrick gear swept them off the trucks. The steam tug Lyttelton, bound from Glasgow to New Zealand, lias called at Cooktown for provisions. She proceeds to Brisbane for coals.
