PATEA WEST ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held at the Kakararaea Town Hall, on Monday last. Present; Messrs Hamilton (in the chair) 1 , Peacock, J. Paterson (Carlyle), Napier, Marchant, and J. Paterson (Kakararaea). Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Correspondence included letter from "Fraser and Tregear, apologising for not having prepared plans and specifications ; from —. Bo wan, with particulars of light tramways suitable for country districts. Tenders for bush falling were opened— Clifford Koad, T. Struther’s, 16s per chain, —accepted •, Hurley Road —E. Hawkins and J. Smith, 18s per chain—declined. No other tenders received, although a number of works required to be taken up. Proposed by Mr Peacock, seconded by Mr Napier, and carried, “ That the Secretary be empowered to let bush, falling contracts, 120 chains on Wilford Road, and 130 chains on Hurley Road, at a cost not exceeding 16s per chain. [Contract for Hurley Road since let to E. Hawkins, at 16s.]

Proposed by Mr Peacock, seconded by Mr Hamilton, and carried, “That-the Secretary write to Messrs Eraser & Tregear, informing them that the Board expect them to complete the required plan and specification for road works, within the next seven days, or else inform the Board that they cannot perform the work, and also request reply to letter of August loth re Upper Kakaramea Road. Proposed by Mr Mai chant, seconded by Mr Paterson (Carlyle), and carried, “That in the event of Messrs Fraser and Tregear not preparing the plans for Taumaha Road, that Messrs Peacock and Hamilton be appointed a committee to lay off the work, and accept tenders for same.” Proposed by Mr Merchant, seconded byMr Peacock, and carried, “That the portion of reso'ution passed at meeting, August 12th, referring to Engineer’s instructions to lay oli work on Joll Road, be rescinded, and that Messrs J. Paterson (Carlyle), and the mover lay' off the work, and accept tenders for same.”

Resolved, That Messrs Fraser & Tregear bo requested to complete Clifford’s contract on Ball Road at once.

Resolved, That fresh tenders be called for works on Manutahi and Upper Ball Road.

Accounts passed for payment— Patea Mail, £1 19s, Wanganui Chronicle , £1 4s; Taranaki Herald, £1 4s. The meeting adjourned,
