ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

[WE arc at all times ready to give expression to every shade o£ opinion, but in no case do we hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of oar correspondents.]

REPLY TO “ INQUIRER.”

{To the Editor of the Patea Mail.)

Sib, —“ Inquirer,” in order to obtain information for the benefit of the public, and after obtaining that information to give himself an opportunity of again appearing in print, asks “if it is true that Mr Bridge and myself waited upon Sir John Coode to impress upon him the necessity of having the wharves erected on the Whenuakura side of the Patca River,”-

I beg to state that, as the question of erecting a wharf and good’s shed is about to occupy the attention of the Board, we considered that, as members of the Board, we were quite justified in asking an opinion as to the best site for a wharf, and accordingly requested Mr Blackett to ask if Sir John Coode could, without inconvenience, give the Board the benefit of his opinion on the subject: but that we waited upon him, to impress our opinions as to any particular site, I distinctly deny. The latter part of “ Inquirer’s” letter I pass over with contempt. He is, if I mistake not, a member of the Board, and the one who remarked upon the occasion of my election “ That he could be very nasty if he liked, and thatif T took a certain position on the Board, he would be that damned nasty that I-would be glad to clear out of it.”

Leaving “ Inquirer” to the concoction of further nasty insinuations for your nest issue, of which I shall take no notice.—l am, &c., JOHN GIBSON. Patea, 15th May, 1878.
