THE WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY.
The Presbytery of Wellington met at the Manse, Victoria Avenue, on Wednesday morning. Thesedernnt consisted of Messrs Ross, Doull, Allsworth, Tony, Treadwell, and Paterson, ministers, and Mr David Strachan, elder. In the absence of the Moderator, Mr Donll took the chair, and constituted the meeting with prayer. The two most important matters under consideration were a report and the supply of vacant places. The former was by a committee which had been appointed in December last to collect on the Sabbath schools of the congregations within the bounds. It was read by Mr Treadwell, the convener, and was full and interesting. After consideration a resolution was passed adopting the report which was to be printed for circulation ; thanks being given to the committee and convener, schools to be examined by deputation of the Presbytery not less than once a year, and that Sunday School Union be formed, the Rev J. Treadwell to carry resolution into effect. The Rev J. Ross and J. Treadwell were to appoint examiners and report next meeting what can be done for young people who have reached the age at which attendance at school usually ceases. Sincere gratification was expressed that so many young people were under • instruction and so many teachers engaged in Sunday School work. The report showed that there are 18 schools, 1,353 scholars, and 155 teachers in connection with the various congregations. within the bounds of the Presbytery. , . ( In connection with the supply of vacancies, the clerk intimated that the Rev Johnston Walker, M.A., a Licentiate of the Free Church of Scotland, had recently arrived from Scotland, and, having been communicated with, had agreed to go to Waihenga and supply the various congregations of the charge there. The Presbytery expressed their gratifi-. cation at the arrival of. Mr Walker, and approved of his being appointed in the meantime to the work he is doing in the Lower Valley, Wairarapa. After other business of no great public interest, the Presbytery adjourned to meet in St John’s, Wellington, on the third Wednesday in August.—Prom the Wanganui Chronicle.
