VISIT OF SIR JOHN COODE.
Sm Jomx Cot xm, anil party arrived by coach at Carlyle, from Taranaki, on Wednesday muvuiugt At noon, Sir John Coode, Mr Ouode (who acts as Private Secretary to his father), Mr John Blackett (the Colonial Maiiuo Engineer), -Mr G. P. Sherwood (Chairman of the Patea Harbor Hoard), and Hr John Thomson (Engineer to the Board), were taken up the river in a rowing boat, and went as far as the cel weirs. Soundings were taken on the return trip. All the data and information at the command of the Board, Intel previously been laid before Sir John Coode, so that nothing was wanting to enable that gentleman to form a sound opinion on toe capabilities oft.hu river, and of the practicability of the proposed Harbor Works. After a thorough examination, Sir John expressed himself as very favorably impressed with Patea Hiver. His professional opinion and report will have to be waited for, but from the careful personal examination and inquiries made, it is not likely that any material point has been overlooked. After the trip up the river, both sides of Heads were well examined.
