NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOR.

(Prom the Taranaki Herald.') AccortmXG to arrangements made, the members of the Taranaki Harbour Board had an interview with Sir John Coode on the 4th instant. The meeting, however, was a private one, the representatives of the Press not being present ; but wc learn that it was a most interesting and satisfactory interview. The Chairm-iui, having' introduced the members of the Harbour Board to Sir John Goode, proceeded to give a resume of what had been done with regard to harbour* works in Taranaki since Messrs Balfour and l)uyae sent in their report in HUiG, to the -‘present time. Sir John Coode expressed himself as being very much interested in iho whole matter, and asked the Chairman to place in writing the information lie bad so fully dwelt on, together with the incroasein the population during the last live years, the exports and imports, the future resources of the place, and any other statistical information lie might be able to obtain. Owing to the geographical position ox the place, he said it a large work was constructed it no doubt would be availed of by vessels as a harbour of refuge ; and he suggested to the Boaid that they should get power from Parliament to levy tolls on vessels that made use of it. fcjir John Coode said the matter was of such importance that he could not give the Board his opinion on the matter olfhand ; but he had nearly got all the information he required, and no doubt slmnldiget sufficient before be left the Colony, so as to enable them to commence the ■ preliminary works on -shore. These preliminary works would occupy twelve months, and before that time his report would be furnished.
