FOUNDATION STONE MEETING.
A wioll attended meeting of town and country settlers met in one of the large rooms at tin; Albion Hotel on Thursday evening, in response to advertised notice to consider steps to be taken to celebrate the commencement of Harbor Works at Patea. Dr Croft was voted to the chair. A 'considerable amount of interest .appeared to be felt by those present, that the event should be suitably commemorated, and a tolerably lengthy discussion of various suggestions made, took place, resuiting in the following resolutions being parsed. Proposed by Mr James Nicholson, seconded by Mr G. F. Sherwood, and carried, “ That the foundation stone be laid on Friday, the 141,h June.” Proposed by Mr 11. Williamson, seconded by Mr P. C. Tenneut, and carried, “That a committee of seven be appointed, with power to add to their number, to confer with the Harbor Board, and to cany out the resolutions approved by this meeting.” Proposed by Mr S. Tapiin, seconded by Mr F. (PS. McCarthy, and carried, “ That the members of the various Lodges be asked to attend the laying of the Foundation Stone, namely, the Freemasons, Odd Fellows. Foresters, and Good Templars.” Proposed by Mr F. O’S. McCarthy, seconded by Mr James Lett, and carried, “ That the Chairman of the Harbor Board Say the stone.”
The following gentlemen wore elected as committee—■ Messrs J. Thomson, C. Fhmeriy, IS. Tapim, Captain Newiand, Iv. E. Mcliae, 11. IS. Peacock, and Dr Cruft. it was agreed that a Ball should take place in ihe evening. Single tickets lOs. Gd, and double tickets, to admit gentleman and two or three ladies of family or friends. £1 Is. Other matters in conned ion with the proposed ceremony were considered .and the meeting adjourned.
