PATEA DISTRICT COURT.

CKDIIXAL CASH

Tjik quarterly sitting of the above Court was held at Carlyle on Wednesday last. His honor Judge Kenny took his scat at half-past eleven o’clock. The names of the jurors were called, and the following gentlemen were cmpaimollod, in the case W. Ovorend v P. McGinn—-W. Derret. jnn. (foreman), K. Mercer, G. Cloutlu W. Bndd, R. Pronso, J. Lupton, E. Butler, W. Hurley, D. Hughes, J. Dickie, J. Rakenham, and T. Bremer.

The charge against tho prisoner was that of obtaining goods under false pretenses. Mr G. D. Hammcrton appeared as Crown Prosecutor.

The prisoner pleaded “ Not guilty,” W. Overend and F. Bryce were (examined. After evidence had been taken His Honor the judge summed up, and explained tho law of the case, defining Very clearly what constituted the offence with wliieh the prisoner was charged. The jury retired and after about half anhour’s consideration returned a verdict of “ Guilty.” His Honor sentenced the prisoner to six months imprisonment in the Wanganui gaol. CIVIL CASK. ■ J, Ross v. R. T. Blake ; claim £1;>0 9s 3d, on a judgment summons. Mr Hamerton appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Adams for defendant, ff’ho court gave' jiidment for the amount of plaintiff’s' claim, together with cost of plaintiff, and counsel’s fee. Otherwise to be committed to New Plymouth gaol for three months.
