Groat public indignation is expressed that Government has determined to practically close the Mountain Road for years by adopting a deviation route in face of the recommendation by Patea and Taranaki County Councils, and report of Messrs Humphries, Skinner, Robinson, and Wright, engineers, who are all in favor of old route. People imagine some person interested is moving in the back ground.

Hack Hurdle Race —Violet, 1 ; Cossack, 2 ; To Kongu, 3. W. J. C. Handicap—Resolution, 1 ; Foam, 2 ; Queen of the Yale, 3. Very exciting race. Won by half a length. Splendid tussle between Foam and Resolution. Opawa, Lara, Tamouri, Danebury and Gliokcborc scratched.
Maiden Plate -Shy Blue, 1 ; Charity Girl, 2 ; Redeemer, 3. Day Dawn Cup—Luna, 1; Loch Lomond 2 ; Chanticleer, 3. A very pretty race. Consolation—Ouida, 1 ; Beep o’ Day, 2.
