PATEA STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY.
About twenty gentlemen met at thoAlbion Hotel, Carlyle, on Saturday afternoon last, to consider the question of direct steam communication with Wellington and other ports. R. E. Mcßae, Esq, was voted to the chair. The desirability and urgent necessity of at once taking steps in the direction- indicated was generally admitted, and various suggestions made as to the best way of attaining the object sought. It was mentioned that the idea of establishing a Steam Navigation Company had been favourably received throughout the County. Many who were unable to attend the meeting through being busy .harvesting, had expressed themselves ready to take up shares. Proposed by Mf Dale, seconded by M r
Christie, and carried, *“ That a Steam Navigation Company be formed, with a capital of £5,000 in 1,000 shapes at £5 each, to be called np as follows:—6s on application, 5s on allotment, and the balance in calls of 10s each, at intervals of not less than one month.” Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr A. Dasent, and carried, “That Messrs Mcßae, Christie, TV pi in, Foreman, and the mover, be a committee, with power to add to their numbers, to canvas for shares and report to a meeting' to be held this day four weeks.” A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
