PATE A HARBOR BOARD ELECTION.

The following numbers were polled for the various candidates : Otoia Hiding. G. F. Sherwood ... HO William Dale ... ••• 101 Hawera Hiding. J. Straclian Greig 02 John Gibson GO James Sonthby ... ... -■ Messrs Sherwood and Greig were therefore declared successful candidates. C'AiiT.Yim Town Board. The following Town Board members were elected as representatives for the Harbor Board : John Milroy Samuel Taplin. The election appears to have created A considerable amount of interest throughout the County. The fact of settlers being now just in the midst of harvesting operations made it something of a sacrifice for them to leave work to come to Carlyle, and to Hawera, for the purpose of voting-. The announcement of the poll at Carlyle was received by hearty cheering. It will be seen that the race at Hawera between Mr Greig and Mr Gibson was a close one. Mr Greig is quite now to public life, and we hope he will properly value the important tntst confided to his care. Wo understand that he is thoroughly in favour of pushing ahead with harbor construction, so that his election may strengthen the hands of those who desire to go ahead. At the election of Harbor Board members by the Carlyle Town Board, _Mr Adams was the onlv absent member.
