[I’HH I'KICKS AGENCY.] <j, HOUSE OF EEPHI?SENTATIVES. ■ o WELLINGTON. August 14. The House met at 2.30 p.m. A petition was presented on behalf of Mr Barton, solicitor, praying the House to enquire into certain allegations against the Chief Justice, and Mr Justice Richmond. Mr Whitaker told Mr Travers that Government did not intend to alter representation during the present session. In reply to Mr Reynolds, Mr McLean said the results of the training school at Kohimarama had not been encouraging enough to induce Government to start another. Mr Bowen replying to a question, said Government were considering the advisability of making provision for establishing a reformatory for the colony. Coming to the first Order of the Day, the adjourned debate on the Native Land Court Bill, the ITemier stated in effect that he would ask that the Order be discharged from the paper ; then, to-morrow he would move to introduce a Bill prohibiting the purchase of Native Lands by private parties for twelve months. During the recess they would ascertain the wishes of Natives regarding the dealing with their lands, and next session will biing down a measure in accordance with their views, and so facilitate settlement. A long discussion ensued upon a point of order i aised by Mr Stout. The Speaker twice ruled against Mr Stout, many members speaking. Mr Lusk at length gave a new turn to affairs by speaking strongly against the Bill, and moving an amendment in effect that the Government take the Bill back and bring down another that session, Mr Sutton strongly supported the Bill. Debate was interrupted by 3.50. NEW PLYMOUTH. August 14. The Dunedin Football Team landed, but refused to play. The Taranaki Team having made every preparation for the match, and players having come from Patea, Hawera, iVaitara, and Inglewood to take part, on hearing the determination of the Dunedin players, expressed themselves in no complimentary terms. One gentleman offered to back Taranaki side for £SO
for two hours pi ay, but Dunedin refused. A dinner had been arranged, but the Taranakians abandoned the whole affair. There was considerable excitement.' MARTON. August 14. The barque Rohina Dunlop, bound to Batavia from Wellington, is a total wreck off the mouth of the Tu’-akina River. The crew, numbering fourteen, are all saved.
AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION. A committee meeting of the Patea District Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was held at Carlyle, on Saturday last, when there were present—Messrs A. Dasent, D. Coutts, R. E. Pearce, C. Symes, D. H. Williamson, 11. Williamson, A. Hunter, R. E. Mcßae, E. K. Morgan, and W. Newland. Mr Coutts was elected Chairman of Committee. Minutes of last meeting wore read and confirmed. On the motion of Mr Williamson, seconded by Mr Hunter, it was unanimously resolved “ That a bonus of £lO be voted to Mr Dale, as a recognition of ids services as Honorary Secretary for the past year.” A letter was read from Mr Hawes, suggesting that the next show be held at Wavcrley. Consideration of letter was deferred till next meeting, absent members of committee to be notified to that effect. On the motion of Mr Hunter, seconded by Mr 11. Williamson, it was resolved “That Messrs Newland, Hawes, and J. Dickie, jun., bo a committee to inspect accommodation at Wavcrley, and to report at next meeting on its suitability, or otherwise.” It was decided to hold the next show on the loth November. The following gentlemen were appointed a sub-committee to work up subscriptions and exhibits for next show : Wavcrley—o. Hawes, and J. Dickie, jun. Carlyle—D. Coutts, and 11. Williamson. Whenuakura —E. M. Houeyfield, and 0. Symes. Kakanunea —R. E. Mcßae, and A. Hunter. Waitotara —A. Johnson, and D. 11. Williamson, Manutahi—H. S. Peacock, and E. J. Morgan. Hawera —S. S. Broadbent, and J. Mc.Michael. Proposed by Mr Mcßae, seconded by Mr D. II Williamson, and carried —“That Mr E. R. Morgan act as Hon. Sec.yiro tern. It was agreed to hold the next meeting at Carlyle, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the 25th hist., after which the meeting adjourned.
