WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday, 4th August. Present —Messrs Bridge (Chairman), lon, Lupton, Fleming, and McLean. Minutes of previous meeting read and continued. Johnstone and J. McLean receive permission to erect gates on the usual conditions.” Resolved —“That the Board decline to make n road on the line proposed by Mr A. Milne, and others, and that they do not foci justified in increasing the expense necessary to make a road through private property for the small benefit it will be to the district.” Resolved —That tenders he invited by the next meeting of the Board, for the following works : Building bridge at Brower’s Creek, Earthworks, at do. do. Earthworks, at Karahaki Creek. Formation, from top of Kohl cutting to Johnstone’s gate. Ploughing and levelling, near D. Peat’s. Ditto, Upper Mangitangi Ditto, Okotuku roads.
PATEA WEST ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the above Board was held at the Board’s office, Carlyle, on Monday last. Present —Messrs Mcßae (Chairman), E. R. Morgan, T. Wilson, W, Balraforth, E. J. Morgan, A. Hunter, and E. M. Honej'field. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence read : Letter from Colonial Secretary’s office, asking for return showing cost of valuation under “The Rating Act, 1876 from Immigration officer, re cottages at Kakaramea and Manutahi ; from John Duncan, asking for certain properties for which he is rated, to be transferred to other persons—agreed to make alteration after rates had been paid ; from R. Burrett, re Rating Book ; report of committee appointed to inspect Bali Road. It was resolved to instruct the engineers to lay off works on Ball Road, inland of Woodville, and give the Board an estimate of cost. It was agreed to inform Messrs Struthers and others, that unless settlers aided by subscriptions, or otherwise, it would be impossible for Board to carry out necessary works on Ball Road. Settlers to be asked if they would be prepared to meet the Board in the matter. Tenders were ordered to be called for falling forty chains bush on Fetch Road. Messis E. J. Morgan and W. Bahnforth were empowered to spend a sum of money in improving road leading to Messrs Ginger Brother’s place at Manutahi. Rules for conduct of business of Board were adopted. On the motion of Mr E. R. Morgan, seconded by Mr E. M. Honeyfield, it was
resolved that a rate of ninepence in the £ be struck for all property within the Board district. Resolved that the engineers be instructed to prepare plans of works on Wilson Road and Ball Road, and between Crompton and Hursthouse Roads. Messrs Fraser and Tregear to be instructed to inspect and report on that portion of Oarsed lioati proposed to t>e closed, and on the road proposed to be opened in lieu thereof. Accounts passed for payment—Fraser and Tregear, £2 Ss ; R. Barrett, £4- ss. The meeting adjourned.
