DOG TAX.
(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir —Mr Black, the County Clerk, informed me about six or seven weeks ago that if I did not pay my Dog tax I should (and every other dog owner), be sued after the 21st of June, without further notice. Well, I paid ; lie also informed me That
all dogs would have to wear a collar, or they would be destroyed. Now, any day you like you may see any amount about this place without collars. No doubt when Mr George Francis Sherwood was M.P.C., and brought forward the Dog Tax, he did a very good thing by creating a billet for some one as Collector, but I fail to sec why, or how Mr Black notifies to the public that legal proceedings will be taken after the 21st of June for recovery of rate, also the fine for non-registration fwhich is between £1 and £5). Neither do I see any authority given by the Council last meeting that he could, or was to sue (hence where the power).— —1 am, 5 SHIELING DOG OWNER. Carlyle, July 9.
