(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, — I am glad to see that letters are pouring into your paper on various local things connected with the Patea County. The letter that advised the resignation of all the members of the County Council, and thus give the country a chance to elect a Chairman that the people have confidence in, is, in my opinion, sound and original. As the Harbor Board (or “ The Board ”) is coming in for a fair share of criticism, and justly, I think it may be as well to mention, as the outside public may not generally be aware, that the minutes of the Harbor Board meetings are open for the perusal of any ratepayers during office hours ; and as the reports are so meagre, and the members of the Harbor Board are not very communicative, it is well for ratepayers to see what is going on for themselves.
The recent leases, I presume, realised £2OO per annum. This, with money in hand, will, with proper management, do a good deal. Now, Mr Editor, I trust that you will watch this affair fearlessly. Don t be afraid. The patronage of these petty powers will soon be at an end, and you will find it more profitable, and, I imagine, more satisfactory to yourself as a man r to have lent a hand to have things managed carefully and well.—l am, &c., WATCH DOG.
