PATEA ROAD BOARD WEST.
A meeting of the above Board was held at the Secretary’s Office, Carlyle, on Monday, 28th May. Present —Messrs R. E. Mcßae (Chairman), Balmforth, E. R. Morgan, A. Hunter, E. J. Morgan, and P. Wilson. The minutes of the previous meeting were road and confirmed. Letter read from Colonial Secretary re Road Boards Act.
Letter from Fraser and Trogear re appointment as surveyors. Applications for the office of Secretary Were received from Win. Dale, for the sum of £3O, and £5 extra if meetings are held at Kakaramea. From John Whelan, for the sum of £2O, for Carlyle and Kakaramea. Proposed by Mr E. J. Morgan, seconded by Mr Wilson —That the Consideration of the Colonial Secretary’s letter, stand over till the next meeting; in the meantime the Chairman to confer with the Chairmen of the Hawera and Patea East Road Boards. Carried. Proposed by Mr E. R. Morgan, seconded by Mr Hunter—That Messrs Fraser and Tregcar be requested to name a per centage (which they would be prepared to accept) for works performed under their engineering. If any works are laid oif for which tenders are not accepted, then the estimated value to be taken as a basis. The estimate in no case to exceed amount named by the Board as available. Carried. Proposed by Mr Wilson, seconded by Mr Hunter —That all cheques be signed by two members of the Board, and countersigned by the Secretary. Carried. Proposed by Mr E. R. Morgan, seconded by Mr Balmforth —That considering the known experience of Mr Dale, on the matters in connection with this Board, that gentleman’s services be accepted as Secretary and Collector, for the ensuing year. Security to be provided to the amount of fifty pounds sterling. Carried. Proposed by Mr Mcßae, seconded by Mr Wilson—That Mr Dale’s office be the office of the Board, and that the meetings of the Board he held in the Town Hall, Kakaramea. Carried.
It was proposed by Mr B, R. Morgan, and seconded by Mr B. J. Morgan—That the Board meetings bo held in Carlylo. On being pnt to the meeting, only one member voted for the amendment.
Resolved—That the Secretary write to the Colonial Secretary, asking that seven copies of the Rating, Public Works, and Financial Arrangements Acts, be forwarded for the use of the members of the Board.
Proposed by Mr Hunter, seconded hj' Mr E. J. Morgan—That Messrs E. lb Morgan, Wilson, Bahnforth, and the mover inspect the Gareed Road, from the junction of Joll Road, and report at the next meeting. Carried. Resolved—'That the meetings of the Board be held on the second Wednesday in the month, at. 2 o’clock p.m.
Mr E. R. Morgan gave notice—That, at next meeting he would move, “ That notice be given to the Patea County Council, that, unless they remove the obstruction on the main line of road, opposite Spence Road, that the Board will take action under the Public Works’ Act, 1876.”
