The Patea Mail. PUBLISHED WEDNESDAYS AND SATURDAYS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1876.

The sale of the .Otoia-Opako block, to take place to-morrow, will- form, as it were, another epoch in the history of the Patca district. As a proof of the high opinions indulged in relative to property in this district, wc may say, that the guides” who have offered their services to show intending purchasers round, have been fully employed of late, and brisk competition may be looked for. The opening up of such a large tract of country cannot fail to be most beneficial, and the anxiety that is shown to become possessed of land in the Paten district, speaks well for tire future Patea County. Without doubt there arc buyers for the lots to be sold to-morrow from nearly every part of the Colony, and the prices realised will give a fan- estimate as to what even bush land is worth at the present time. That it will be large is certain, and that the Government will extract large profits from their bargain appears to be equally assured. At the same time, before it is too'late, before the.Supplementary Estimates have been submitted, we would suggest that monies to fully open up the block should be voted, not in a scrupulous spirit, but in sufficient amounts to do some good. Por- ■ Innately the sale takes place before the cud of the session, and therefore purchasers may anticipate, that as a matter r of justice, they may expect a reasonable expenditure to be allowed on the large prices that the Colonial Treasury are likely to swallow up to-morrow. Whether purchasers can make any conditions, prior to sale, is more than we can say, but, in the meantime, we would urge them to attempt them, whether successful or not. The 1 coining sale is all-important, and the more favorable the conditions given, the better for the settlement of this very recently unsettled portion of the Colony.
