THE WAIROA J.P.’s.
TO THE EDITOR OK TIIK PATEA MAIL. Sin, —As 1 am one of those commented on unfavourably (to use a mild term), in your leader of Saturday last, I trust you will allow me to state that I was from the iirst requested by several of the settlers to let myself be recommended as a J.P., and that 1 never in any way tried to influence any person in my favour, believing, as I do, it is a matter should be left to each man’s conscience. _ I am happy to say I had a large majority of bona fiule settle™ (not boys), and I think far more of such an expression of confidence on the part of my fellow-settlers, than of the J.P.-ship. Your informant, has evidently given you a grossly one-sided account of the whole affair. I am, &c JOHN W. KENAII. AVairoa, Juno 28, 1875. [ln justice to Mr Kenah, we may state that our article in no way referred to him. Ed. P.M.]
