PLOUGHING MATCH.

.A meeting of the Ploughing Match Cuuunittce was liehl at Mr William Bale’s om Carlyle, on Saturday last. Present —Messrs I). Contis, H. Williamson, (I, W. Gane, J. Dickie, I. Lupton, W. Robertsori, and the Secretary. On the motion of Mr IT. Williamson, seconded by Mr Lupton, it was resolved—- “ That Mr D, Contts bo elected Chairman of Committee.” Proposed by Mr Dickie, seconded by Mr Williamson, and carried—“ That Mr (T.'W. Cans bq added to the committee.”

The snh-eommitteo appointed to .select a suitable piece of ground for the holding of the forthcoming ploughing match brought up their report, which stated that the committee had the choice of several suitable pieces of ground near Wairoa, hut had not yet determined on Avliat farm the match would bo held on. It Avas rcsuGed to adopt the folloAving code of rules for the carrying out of the match ; 1. The quantity of land to bn ploughed by each competitor to be not less than four-tenths of an acre. 2. The land to be ploughed in one ridge, each ploughman to show three furrows round his furrow. 3. The depth of each furrow to be not less than live inelies. 4. Each ploughman to be allowed assistance in setting his poles only. 5. All competitors to be on the ground by 9 o’clock a.in. A flag will bo hoisted at 9 a.m. as a signal for starting, and will be hauled down at 3 p.m. as a signal for finishing. The match to be open to all comers. First class for men, and second class lor boys under eighteen years of age. Entries—■’Men’s class, 10s ; boys’"do, ss. Entries to close on the 15th July, and to be addressed to the secretary, care of Mr I. Lnpton, Wavorly Hotel, Wairoa. The secretary Avas instructed to Avritc to Messrs McLean and Edwards, of Wairoa, inviting them to tender for the right of a booth, and for the supplying of a lunch to the plong iiivu on the ground ; also tor a public dinner at G o’clock p.m. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the business.
