THE UPPER TEN.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PATE A 31 AIL.

Sir—l trust that the insult which the residents of Carlyle received at the hands of the gentlemen who conducted the management of tho late soiree will not be forgotten, and that precautionary measures will be taken to guard against the t possibility of the recurrence of such an outrageous breach of etiquette. It is indeed to be deplored that gentlemen, bolding good social positions, should have lent themselves to such an unpardonable procedure, and more particularly, too, after the handsome manner in which the public supported the movement for which the entertainment was held in aid of. io admit that these so-called gentlemen had indicted a slight on the superior portion of the intelligence and respectability would only assist in elevating them. As a sale and certain cure against tno repetition of such snobbishness, I would suggest that whenever the names of the aggressors again appear as the promoters of any entertainment, the public would do well to withhold their support, and the result would no doubt teach these “ upstarts to pay more attention to the feelings o.L thenguests on a future occasion. It is to be regretted that such paltry distinctions should be allowed to develop itself in a small town like Carlyle, but L trust, mi Editor, that for the future you will not ho slow in checkmating such conduct. Yours, &e. TRADESMAN. Carlyle, April 12. .
