RACING IN AUSTRALIA.
A.J.C. WINTER MEETING. SYDNEY, June 8. The Australian Jockey Club’s winter meeting was opened to-day at Randwick in ideal weather, with a good attendance, the occasion being the observance of the
King’s birthday holiday. Following are the results:— JUNE STAKES. — Greensea, 8.12 (Jones), 1; Eulclare, 7.13 (Simpson), 2; Promptitude, 7.11 (Burrows), 3. Eighteen started, including Greenline, Fuji San, Gay Ballerina, and Lord Romeo. Won by three-quarters of a length, with half a length between second and third. Time, Imin lljsec. AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB HURDLES. —Dark Isle 9.0 (Lillyman), 1; Drake, 9.12 (Cullum), 2; Gadray, 9.3 (Bott), 3. Eleven started, including Grosvenor, W B, Paul T, and Perides. Dark Isle, closely attended by Pericles, established a clear lead, with Gadray tailed off. About five furlongs from home Drake tried to overtake Dark Isle, who moved away and won by two lengths brilliantly He jumped splendidly all through. Perides came to grief. Gadray finished fast, and did wonderfully well to finish third, threequarters of a length behind Drake. Grosvenor was fourth, then Paul T, Jocoon, Rossgole, Ulenjoy, and W B. Time, 4min 20;}sec. , ELLESMERE HANDICAP.—Tortoni, 7.5 (Hickey), 1: Troilus, 8.11 (Bartie), 2; Don Moon, 9.3 (Williams), 3. Sixteen started, including Gemlight and Havaspot. Won by a length and a-half each way. Havaspot was fourth. Time, 2mm 4£sec. The First Nursery was won by Legitime, with Senator second and Miss Nottava third. The winner gained the verdict by five lengths. . SYDNEY, June 13. The winter meeting of the Australian Jockey Club was concluded in splendid weather.
Following are the results:— SECOND HURDLE RACE.—Drake, 11.2 (Cutler), 1; Sir Carillon, 9.2 (Zeally), 2; Ulenjoy, 9.2 (Delaney), 3. Seven started. Won by three lengths and a-half, with 10 lengths between second and third. Time, 3min 42sec. FLYING HANDICAP.—Green Sea, 9.5 (Jones), 1; Auda (N.Z.), 7.12 (Pratt), 2; Eulclare, 7.9 (Simpson), 3. Eleven started, including Gay Ballerina. Won by a neck. Time, Imin llfsec. AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB STEEPLECHASE.—Burraform, 10.11 (Hynes), 1; Indicate, 10.13 (Zeally), 2; Kinross, 10.7 (Giles), 3. Eight started, including Home Made. Prince Arim fell at the first fence, and Indicate led almost throughout, with Kinross, Burraform, St. General, and Grosvenor as his nearest attendants, and Home Made tailed off. Turning for home Indicate ran wide and lost ground. Finishing fast, Burraform slipped through and won an exciting race by three-quarters of a length, with Kinross 10 lengths away, third. Time, 6min 32sec.
THE V.R.C. MEETING. MELBOURNE, June 8. The Victoria Racing Club’s King’s Birthday meeting was continued to-day in dull weather and on a heavy track after week-end rain. Following are the results;;— MARLBOROUGH HURDLES.—OIina, 9.7 (Inkson), 1; Polygonum, 9.7 (Fullarton), 2; Cockrow, 9.2 (Howson), 3. Ten started, including Catkin. Won by four lengths, with five lengths between second and third. Time, 4min 31fsec. PRINCE OF WALES STEEPLECHASE.—RakwooI, 11.12 (Inkson), 1; Best Man, 9.0 (Howson), 2; George William, 9.9 (Warner), 3. Ten started. Won by half a length, with four lengths between second and third. Time, smin 7£sec. BIRTHDAY HANDICAP.—GIatic, 7.8 (Badger), 1; Hazlewood, 7.7 (Dewhurst), 2; Impetto, 6.7 (Accold), 3. Thirteen started, including Sir Roy. Won by four lengths, with half a length between second and third. Time, 2min 49sec. ADELAIDE RACING CLUB. MELBOURNE, uune 8. At the Adelaide Racing Club’s birthday meeting the chief event, the Aiderman Cup, resulted as follows:—Borbeo, 7.0 (Medhurst), 1; Royal Lass, 7.7 (Oakey), 2; St. Mary, 8.13 (Slatterly), 3. Ten started. Won by two lengths and a-half. Time, 3min Ijsec. RACING IN ENGLAND. THE NEWBURY CUP. LONDON, June 11. The Newbury Cup, 1350sovs, one mile and a-half, resulted: —Salmon Leap 1, Truncheon 2, Prince Paradise 3. Ten started. Won by two lengths; head.
