ASHBURTON TROTTING CLUB. Saturday, June 13. The Ashburton Trotting Club’s winter meeting was held in fine weather. The course was in good order, and the attendance was very large. A few seconds after the start Red Clover tripped, a wheel collapsing as it swerved, with the result that Red Clover. Gunfire. Warbird, Logan Fraser, Jester, and Aimworthy fell. Symmetry’s gear was damaged, and she was pulled up in the straight. D. Withers and M. B. Edwards fell in the midst of a heap of horses and sulkies. The former suffered slight concussion, but he was not taken to hospital. The other five received only bruises. Won by three lengths, with two lengths between second and third. Loving Cup, which ran second at Ellerslie to-day, was accidentally destroyed in mistake for Glen Maree, which injured itself so badly on Saturday that a veterinary' surgeon ordered its destruction. It was a case of mistaken identity. Both horses were owned by Mr M. Wells, of Cambridge. A BELATED INVESTMENT. CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. A meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Board considered in committee a totalisator case at the Timaru meeting on March 14, the following statement being released:—“That, having heard the evidence, we are of the opinion that, whilst it does not amount to fraudulent or corrupt practice, J. F. M'Kendry’s investment was made immediately after the window was officially closed, and that being so. the conduct of M'Kendry and J. E. Fitzgerald, totalisator clerk, is censurable, and that the association reprimand both parties, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to Mr James, the proprietor of the totalisator, and to , the Minister of Internal Affairs.”
