OTAGO HUNT CLUB

MEET AT HALFWAY BUSH. A large number of hunters and racehorses assembled on the Wingatui clay road prior to the Otago Hunt Club’s meet on Saturday. Apart from the 23 horses which qualified, there were no fewer than 21 others whose riders attended the meet for an outing. The run was a very tricky one, and several horses had trouble at different parts. After the first mile the field was very drawn out, and, from a spectator’s point of view, the hunt was not very interesting as, owing to the nature of the country, only four of the 16 fences could be seen. There were three gorse hedges, which were jumped by all the horses in good style, and a stone wall was -also cleared well, but, strangely enough, it was the rail fences which gave all the trouble. Those who qualified were:—The master (Mr J. N. Murdoch) on Kismet, the deputy master (Mr H. S. Jones) on Ngawere, Huntsman F. Kydd on Stately, Whip D. G. Binnie on Starset, Mrs T. Dalziel on Chrysler. Miss Edna Greenslade on MacGregor. Miss Isobel Reid on Dandy, Miss F. Mitchell on Barney, Messrs R. Sleigh on Beau Sabreur, R. .Greenslade on Mount Mavora, N. Robertson on Kiwi, B. Hastie on Mystery, W. Abernethy on Nugget, H. Abernethy on Rosethorne, W. Brown on Colleen, H. L. Pugh on Kelly, R. Beale on Traction,. T. Ingram on Koromata, H. Anderton on Shipshape. A. Souter on Star Tractor, W. Cooper on Captain’s Gift, A. M“Callum on Yellowbird.

M'Gregor on Bonny, W. White on Baldy, A. S. M'Kay on Ardath, G. M. Lyon on Crossbow, W. S. Corbet on Scotty, W. Gordon on Royal Flower, and Master. K. Russell on a pony.
