CONFERENCE IN INVERCARGILL. INVERCARGILL, May 29. The annual provincial conference of the Farmers' Union was held here to-day, when remits were carried protesting against the duty being raised on imported timber, demanding that the Government must not tax insurable property to rebuild the devastated earthquake areas, approving of the principle of a collective co-operative scheme of marketing dairy produce, urging the Government to introduce legislation to institute a compulsory National Provident Fund, recommending that the Unemployment Board be recommended to give constant employment to the unemployed at a lower rate per day than at present. Ten shillings a day for married men and six shillings for single were suggested.
