It is interesting to note the cost of living in workmen’s camps of the present day and compare outgoings with the average ruling in days gone by. A county council camp at Waitotara manages to carry on successfully at 10s a week. Another camp in the same county works the cost of living out at 12s a week. In the olden days when survey parties were very prominent in the back lands 10s a week was looked upon as a fair average. .'
