During the recent period of 12 months the Church of England recorded a decrease of 34,000 persons in Britain, taking holy communion, 22,000 Sunday school scholars, and nearly 10,000 candidates for confirmation. There is little between them.” The merchant went on to explain that all Siberian butter on the market was not as good’ as the sample tasted, but it did go to show that Siberia was capable of making good butter and becoming a formidable rival of the British dominions on the London market.
