SATURDAY’S MATCHES. DUNEDIN. UNIVERSITY A w. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS. University A met Technical Old Boys on Oval No. 1 on Saturday in a game which was evenly contested throughout. From the bully play oscillated back and forward, till, from a twenty-five University shot, but Howie saved and sent play back into midfield. A free bit sent University down, but a free hit for Technical ended in O’Brien scoring for Technical. _ University was having hard luck with its shots. Technical went down with a passing rush, but was sent back by University backs, and Alorrison scored. Bond, Technical’s centre half, was playing a good game. A shuffle in Technical’s goal-mouth gave no result, and the ball was sent into midfield once more. University tried hard to net, but Howie saved well, and play was moving to University’s ground when half time was called with the score still even. From the bully Technical was trying hard, but University was defending well. University went up, but Barnes saved Although both goalies were kept moving a great many shots were missed. After a lot of-' close play M'Haffie scored with a good shot. From the bully play went into University’s circjp, and after some round play from a corner Silver put in a good shot that gave Douglas little chance. Swan was saving University a lot of trouble in the way he cleared. A lot of close play ended in University breaking -away, to be sent back after Technical’s goalie saved and the backs cleared. From a corner University broke away, but Technical was soon back, and another corner resulted, Silver missing with a fast shot. ALBANY v. TRAINING COLLEGE. Albany met Training College on Oval t No. 2. From the opening bully Albanj- | attacked, and gained a corner. Albany continued to attack, but the College backs withstood the strain. For a time Albany kept up the attack without result; then College took a hand, but Whitburn relieved to send his forwards away. Albany went away, and Rennick was unlucky with a shot. From the twenty-five College attacked, and Twose was called upon to save a good shot. Albany then went away, and Thompson finished off the rush with a good goal. From the bully Albany- attacked, but was sent back, and College gained a corner, which Twose was lucky to save. College continued to attack, and gained another corner, which was cleared. Each goal was sorely tried in turn, but nothing resulted. Then College attacked, and good combined play enabled Anderson to score with a good shot, giving Twose no chance. College took a turn at attack, but Simpson saved, to send his forwards away to gain a twenty-five. Albany kept up the attack, from which Baxter scored. From the bully College attacked, but Frost relieved for Albany to take the ball up the field for Thompson to score his second goal. From, the bully College attacked, but “ sticks ” spoiled a good chauce. Then Albany took the ball down the field for Densen to put in a good centre to Baxter, who scored a great goal, however, he was off-side, and it was disallowed. From the resumption Albany attacked, but Carrington saved, and College gained a corner. Albany cleared and set up a hot attack, from which Baxter scored. Up-and-down play followed for a time, until Albany gained a corner, from which Simpson was unlucky not to score. Albany kept up the attack, and Fisher sent in a good sentre to Rennick, who put the ball over the top. From the twenty-five the ball went out to Thompson, who gave Baxter a chance of another goal, which he accepted. From the bully Albany took the ball up the field for Densen to put in a good goal. Albany again attacked, but a knock on spoiled a good chance, and College took a turn at attack. Play was of a very fast nature, with College having the best of the exchanges. Rennick went through to score with a great shot. From the bully Albany set up an attack, and College relieved to set up a counter-attack. Play became rather one-sided in Albany’s favour. Thompson put in a hot shot, but it lacked direction. College then came away, but Simpson saved and sent his forwards away. Rennick finished off with a shot which gave the goalie no chance. Albany continued to attack, and Baxter and Rennick both missed with I good shots. College then attacked, and Souness was unlucky not to score. The game ended:— Albany S goals. College 1 goal. Mr C. Abernethy was referee. CITY v. UNIVERSITY B. City met University B on Oval No. 3, the weather being ideal. Len Ireland made a reappearance. From the bully-off University attacked, the City backs being called on to save. City then carried play to University’s circle, where a good chance was missed by City forwards. University continued to press, resulting in play being centred in City’s twenty-five for some minutes. A good clearance by Gurr let City away, and the attempt to goal was nullified by “ sticks.” From the free hit, City again attacked, but University backs proved safe. Play was quickly transferred to City territory, and resulted in a twenty-five bully. Play was centred in City’s area for some time, and it was at times pressed hard, but University could not succeed in finalising a good movement. City cleared, but University returned play to City’s goalmouth, where Les Ireland cleared. City backs were being hard pressed, and University was gaining ground off their play. Several attemps were made by City forwards and they continued to press. University quickly transferred play- to City twenty-five, where it gained a corner.

On play recommencing University- attacked, but play was quickly transferred to University’s circle, where City was penalised. The free hit let University away, but Smith cleared. Fast up-and-down play followed, each set of forwards making attempts to score. From a good passing movement University evened the score. City attacked strongly and was penalised when in a strong position. Ireland and Smith, the City full-backs, were kept very busy, and Sturgeon was called on to stop a hot shot- Leu Ireland and Mayston were doing good work in the City forwards, and Gurr was playing his usual good game. University was pressing hard, and City was forced to concede a corner shot, which was cleared by Gurr. An attack by City was spoiled by Morris giving “sticks.” From the free hit University attacked, but Smith cleared and sent Mayston Len Ireland sent in a hot shot, but the University goalie saved well. The Blues kept pressing and the City half-backs were kept busy. City now pressed hard, and Morris had a shot but was unlucky. Up-and-down play followed, both teams pressing hard, and the play was fast, the second goal coming from a good shot by Morris. City continued to press, and Mayston recorded City’s third goal iust on time. For City, Len Ireland and Mayston in the forwards, Gurr and Morris in the halves, and Les Ireland at full-back, played sound gamesUniversity forwards played well and staged a good attack, which was only frustrated by the City backs. The game ended:

B nil. 1 Albany B 2, Caversham Presbyterians LADIES’ GAMES UNIVES IT Y V. MOMONA. Playing on the Oval, University proved to be a good side, and Motnona was also playing a good game. The Blue forwards made the play, but Momona put in some good back work and made the game an interesting one. In the final stages the game was very well contested, and the final whistle found the score: University 2 goals. Momona 1 goal. Mr J. Gray was referee. TRAINING COLLEGE v. TRIANGLETraining College and Triangle played a fast, open game on the Oval. The game was well contested throughout, the College forwards making play keen. College put in some fine defensive work, and their forwards worked well. Good defence by the Red backs kept the score down, but College won a well-merited victory. College 7 goals. Triangle 2 goals. Mr R. S. Wallace was referee. B GRADE. Otago B 2. training College 2. Technical O.G. I 3, Momona II nil. Triangle 1. University nil. Taieri 5, Techanieal 3. C GRADE. Momona 2, University 1.
