WAIMATE.
September 11.— The Oama.ru Drama tio Society gave Byron's popular comedy, Our Boys." in Waimate on Thursday night. Sir Geoffrey Chairapneys was impersonated by Mr F. Ford. The role of Perky n Middlewick, the retired butterman, was ably llled by Mr F. Mmlvihall. Mr E. J. Barry was almost as successful as Talbot, Sir Geoffrey's son. Miss K. Harmon a<s Miss Mary Melrose. and Miss Eileen 0'Don«ell, and" Mrs Mulvihall as Belinda and Mrs Huntgerford ac Violet Melrose filled the ladies' parte successfully. (Jharies Middlewick, the butterman's son, was a difficult part well. played. Poddies was taken by Sfr C. Cagnev, and Kempsted by Mr C. Corcoran. The acting, staging, and management reflected credit on all concerned. During the acting the Waimate orchestra played ssveral selections. Football.— The last match of the season, Waimate v. South Canterbury, was played at Wa.ima.te on Thursday before a large crowd of spectators, and resulted in a win for WviimaAe by 12 points to 6. Haraws. — The N.Z cross-country championship and interclub championship wen Win in Timaru last Thur&day. Both events were ron toce'ther over a trail of five miles 40 runners taking part. Mr W. F. Simpkm (late _jjuard" bciw^en Waihao Downs and gtudholme) was the first man in, winning toy 100 yds in 34-min 2 2-ssec. Beatsor (Otago) was second, in "34mki 19 2-ssec Simpson takes the gold medal for first mat home in the N.Z. Championship and firei prize of £1 Is for first home in the Interclub fehieJd Race. Otago won the N.Z. Cham pionship, and Cavershain the Interclub. The Waimate team, thoueh the youages: entrants, showed up creditably.
