MORVEN.

September 13.—The spring weather, seems to have set in now, but the temperature is by no means high yet, for we have had fro3ts lately, and some are complaining that their gardens are not progressing as quickly as they expected. A fair sprinkling of lambs is to hi seen everywhere, and farmers are wishing for another month of dry weather until they get their crops all in. It is probable that a larger area than usual will be put in potatoes this year School Committee.—Thd Morven School Committee met in the school on Monday night, -when thare were present—Messrs T L. Hart, G. M'Pherson, A. Borwick, b. J. Bailey, J. T. Hay, and J. E. Middlebrook. The chairman reported that the inspector would visit the school on the loth for the annual examination, and he also read the regulations relating to the Waimate Board scholarships. The liead master reported that the painters had started to paint the school, and that he had procured a supply of shrub 3 from Mr Gebbie, Oamaru, and that the boys had planted them under his supervision, it-was decided that the gardens be fenced with cyclone netting, and that the old fence be strengthened where necessary- It was left to the master to interview the foreman re bell tower, which is in need ot attention. Mr Middlebrook reported that he had engaged Mr Breslin to cart three loads of shingle, and. hit action was approved of. Improvement*.- -A number of improvements are in progress just now in the township. Mr J. K. Blair is building a fine new residence in lhe section adjoining that in which Mrs J. Seaman's neat new house stands, while across the road the Anglican Church is nearin<r completion, and the Education Board's painters are at work painting the school and residence. The tennis ground has been newly graded and sown down in grass, and the court is to be ropdres3erl at ones The Presbyterian Church ground is to be planted with trees and suitable shrulis Tennis.—The general annual mef-ting of the tennis club will be held in the hall on Wednesday night, when a good attendance of those'interasted is expected. There is a movement on foot to put down a second court, but this will depend on the suppoit accorded to the club.
