OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.
i A special meeting of the committee of the Otago A. arid P. Society was hedd on Friday, and was attended -by Messrs W. J. Charters (piesictant, in the chair), J. Loudon, J. Angus, W. Patrick, J. Nimmo,\ G. H. MaoEwan, A. M'Farlane, T. T. Ritchie, F. Freeman, James Gow, J. R. Scott, A. Todd, and J. Patrick. Apologies weire received from Messrs W. Souter, D. Murray, John Elliott, E. Bowler, R. Logan, T.E. Jefcoate, and J. A. Roberts. The Chairman intimated that the meet ing had been called for the purpose of considering offers of challenge cups for the coming horse parade, which would take place At Tahuna Park on Thursday, September 30. On me motion of Mr Wm. Patrick, seconded by Mr A. M'F&rlane, it was unanimously resolved Chat an Otago Challlenge Cup of £50 ' be presented for competition by members of the committee of the society for the coming horse parade, and that 'the conditions under whioh the cup was to be competed for were to be arranged by, the Draught Horse Committee forthwith; and further that subscription^ from members of nmrnittee be- obtained, towards this" end, absent members to.be duly advised. It -was also resolved to thank Messrs Wright, Stephenson, amd Co. for their generous offer of- a. cup, but the committeo was of opinion that such a oup should be eiven by the society, and that the conditions thereof should also be decided on and governed by it, and that steps be at onoe taken to institute such a' competition. The committee therefor© regretted that it was unable to avail itself of the generous offer contained in Mesars Wright, Stephenson, and Co.'s letters of 27th July and 27tn August. The President intimated that two 20guinea cups were also to be donated by horse -breeder* in Otago for the summer show at the end of November, one' of the cups to be for the best yearling or two-year-old coft and the other for the best yearling or two-year-old filly, eaoh cup to be won twice, not necessarily in succession, by the same owner before becoming his absolute property. The Secretary intimated that several valuable special prizes had been offered by leading business firms and others in Dunedin for various classes at the summer show, full particulars of which would shortly be advertised.
